Julian McIntosh Architects were commissioned to transform and modernise a family home that had not undergone any significant renovations for a considerable period of time. The client's requirements included expanding the kitchen, dining room, and bathroom spaces, as well as implementing various upgrades throughout the house to account for a period of transition for the family.
To meet these objectives, our team embarked on a comprehensive interior redesign and refurbishment project, with a particular focus on creating a more functional and contemporary living environment. A key aspect of the project was the construction of a rear extension, which allowed for the introduction of ample natural light into the ground floor. This extension facilitated a seamless flow from the front of the house to the back, extending into the garden.
In the design of the extended space, our team incorporated strategic glazing elements such as additional rooflights, sliding doors, and glazed doors leading to the outside. These elements not only maximised natural light but also enhanced the overall aesthetics of the interior.
A major highlight of the project was the thoughtful design of the kitchen area. We created a bespoke layout that included a concealed pantry and utility area, along with a central breakfast bar for the family to gather and enjoy meals together. This design solution not only met the family's functional needs but also fostered a sense of togetherness and promoted socialising.
By reorganising the ground floor layout, we successfully improved the overall flow and functionality of the entire space. The renovation brought a fresh, contemporary ambiance to the home, addressing the family's desire for a modern living environment.
The transformation of this family home exemplifies our commitment to delivering designs that prioritise both aesthetics and practicality. Through careful planning, innovative use of glazing, and a focus on creating functional spaces, we have successfully revitalised the property, ensuring it meets the specific needs of the family.
