British heritage brand Burberry commissioned Julian McIntosh Architects (JMA) to work on the designs of the Burberry Thomas’s cafe in Busan Ananti Hilton, South Korea.  This first-floor experiential space would offer a curated menu created by Chef Laubenuit and would blend seamlessly with the brand’s pop-up store on the ground floor, also designed by JMA, in order to curate a harmonious brand experience.

JMA used 3D-modelling and undertook a collaborative and iterative design process to develop finely-tuned structural details and support the brand to achieve its desired aesthetic.

Key challenges of the project were making the space work with the constrained site conditions and working around kitchen spaces and back-of-house spaces.

The aesthetic of the space was designed to incorporate the TB summer monogram print featured in Burberry’s collection launch. JMA re-interpreted the monogram to create a sophisticated modern design with a playful use of a motif that captured the sea view of the Busan Hotel. A bespoke iteration of the TB summer monogram is featured across the space, from the outdoor terrace areas, to dining spaces and lounge area.
