Burberry, the renowned luxury fashion brand, approached Julian McIntosh Architects with a unique design brief: to create an experiential space within the luxury Antani Cove Hotel complex in the vibrant city of Busan, Korea. The brief called for a pop-up store that would be retrofitted into an old space, a task that demanded creativity, skill, and careful planning.

Inspired by Burberry's summer Monogram creative, the pop-up store was designed with warm tonal gradients that complemented the iconic Burberry logo. The design concept enveloped the space in a sunset, evoking the beauty of Busan's natural environment, with one side of the city bathed in sunlight and the other cast in shadow. We incorporated the TB Monogram motif, introduced by the chief creative director, Riccardo Tisci, and designed by graphic designer Peter Saville, heavily throughout the store, creating a cohesive and visually stunning space.

JMA worked closely with Burberry from the early stages of the project to develop a detail-oriented design that would meet their needs and reflect their brand identity. Our approach to spatial planning was meticulous, taking the utmost care to navigate the complexities of transforming an existing structure, previously used as a kitchen within the hotel, into a captivating and functional retail space.

By incorporating unique powder-coated and metal-grated ceilings, the design concealed any pre-existing elements that the client did not wish to preserve, reimagining these features in the new, revitalised space. Building false walls, decorated with a range of serene sunset hues, created a welcoming and warm retail environment.
