Julian McIntosh Architects and Urban Symbiotics were commissioned by an international investor group to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study for the acquisition and redevelopment of a significant university infrastructure site located in Stratford, East London. The goal was to assess the feasibility of the project and explore opportunities to introduce sustainable community functions while ensuring the project's financial viability.
The site in question occupied a prominent position within Stratford and was part of the Council's Development Opportunity Framework, alongside several privately-owned sites. To guide the investor group's decision-making process, our joint report provided a thorough analysis of the site's potential, encompassing key aspects such as height and massing variations, contextual responses, and a detailed schedule of the area.
Working with Urban Symbiotics, we combined our expertise in architectural design and urban planning to craft a proposal that not only aligned with the investor group's objectives but also prioritised sustainable development practices. Our aim was to strike a balance between the introduction of community-focused features and the creation of accommodation that would ensure the project's financial viability.
By conducting extensive research and analysis, our team identified opportunities to integrate sustainable elements into the proposed scheme. Our design approach emphasised the importance of creating a built environment that promotes community well-being and meets the needs of future occupants. The project exemplifies our commitment to providing valuable insights and recommendations that consider both the economic and social aspects of redevelopment.
